Newkirk Solar Services was built to solve a simple problem: many skilled electricians wanted to sell solar systems but couldn't handle the administrative burden. The paperwork, compliance requirements, grid connection processes, and STC (Small-scale Technology Certificate) applications were overwhelming—especially for small operators.

I positioned the business as an operations partner for small solar retailers and electricians. Rather than competing with installers, I enabled them to focus on what they did best—installing systems—while I handled everything else.

The core innovation was a custom-built computer system that automated the entire process. With a few inputs, it could generate quotes, invoices, stock orders, pre-filled STC forms, electrical work requests, grid connection forms, and system manuals—all formatted correctly and ready to lodge. This system handled stock management, grid connection paperwork, STC applications, and customer communications seamlessly.

The service included supplying complete solar kits (panels, inverters, mounting hardware, isolators, connectors) in various quality tiers, plus comprehensive administration: lodging forms with retailers and distributors, managing STC payments, and ensuring systems were connected to the grid quickly.

What made this unique—and still does—was removing the operational barrier that prevented electricians from entering the solar market. By building systems that automated complexity, I enabled tradespeople to expand their businesses without needing to become administrative experts.
